The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY has a vacancy for a full-time EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Public Works Department. Position performs skilled work in maintaining and repairing automotive and construction equipment in a garage environment. Typical duties include tune-ups, brake work, inspections, tire rotation, oil changes, maintain records and files and other related automotive tasks. Job requires the ability to lift up to 20# regularly and 50# frequently. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in repairing automotive equipment. Must possess or be able to obtain ASE certification. NC Driver’s License/background/drug test required.
Hiring range $30,623 to $35,216 depending upon qualifications.

The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY is now recruiting for full-time FIREFIGHTER/EMT for the next hiring process. Firefighter/Paramedic or Firefighter/Advanced-EMT is preferred, but not required. Applicants may be required to obtain these medical certifications at a later time. Duties include responding to emergency calls; suppressing fires; providing basic and advanced life support within emergency medical services; handling hazardous materials; operating and maintaining department vehicles and equipment; preparing and maintaining detailed reports. Position requires knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency medical care, automobile extrication, emergency transportation; fire suppression methods and techniques; proper handling of hazardous materials. Must possess high school diploma or GED. Firefighter Certification, EMT, Technical Rescue and HAZMAT certifications required. Possession of a valid, unrestricted NC driver’s license required. Background/drug test required. Applicants must be able to obtain NFPA 1582 required physical clearance.
Hiring salary for Firefighter/EMT- $40,851.11 (based on 2912 annual hours at $14.03 per hour).
Hiring salary for Firefighter/Advanced EMT- $47,273.11 (based on 2912 annual hours at $16.23 per hour).
Hiring salary for Firefighter/EMT-Paramedic $49,651.64 (based on 2912 annual hours at $17.05 per hour).

THE TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY has a vacancy for a full-time ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN I. This position performs intermediate skilled work related to the City’s financial records. Duties include, but not limited to, preparing/processing accounts payable from receipt of requisition/purchase order to data entry input to printing checks; balances accounts payable to general ledger records; prepares, maintains; assists with annual audit; and updates financial reports/forms as required. General knowledge of basic accounting terminology, procedures & equipment; use of PC and related software required in the performance of job duties especially working Excel knowledge. Ability to perform under time constraints and pressure; work independently in absence of supervision; perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; analyze and resolve problems in a logical manner; communicate orally or in writing.

THE TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY, located on the beautiful Crystal Coast in eastern North Carolina, is currently seeking an energetic, self-motivated, and detailed oriented candidate for the position of PLANNING & INSPECTIONS DIRECTOR. Morehead City is the largest incorporated town in Carteret County with a permanent population of over 9,000 residents and encompassing over sixteen (16) square miles of land area (10 square miles = corporate limits; 6 square miles = EJT).
While tourism remains a major industry in Morehead City, other industries and services including, but not limited to, the NC Port of Morehead City, the Center for Marine Sciences & Technology (CMAST) at NCSU, the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) at UNC-Chapel Hill, Carteret Health Care Medical Center general medicine and surgical hospital facility, home of the NC Seafood Festival, retail shopping and restaurants, and a vital downtown area.
This position, under general direction of the City Manager, will provide professional and administrative work to include planning, directing and developing planning activities, services and programs; coordinating and supervising building, environmental and zoning codes enforcement; enforcement of FEMA’s floodplain regulations; management of NC Coastal Area Management’s (CAMA) local permitting program, transportation and subdivision development.
This position is responsible for managing and supervising a staff of eight (8) full-time employees in addition to providing staff support to the City Council and various Boards and Commissions. A departmental budget of $736,000 will be under the direction and management of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree with coursework in planning or related field. Significant professional experience in public sector planning and community development. Considerable supervisory and administrative experience over staff. Comprehensive knowledge of the advanced principles of planning, code enforcement, community development and economics, municipal finance and sociology as they apply to City planning. General knowledge of GIS. Possession of AICP preferred. Possession of a valid, unrestricted NC Driver’s License required. Background/drug testings required.
