Municipal recreation and educational classes for Morehead City are provided and give a comprehensive and varied program of activities, services, and resources for its citizens at all levels, from the pre-school to senior citizens. It is our department’s desire to provide a recreation experience designed to meet constructive and worthwhile goals of the individual participant, groups, and the community at large.
Holiday Camp will be held Friday December 21st, Thursday December 27th, Friday December 28th and Monday December 31st. The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a Holiday Camp for students aged 6-12. Camp hours are 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the cost of $15.00 per day. Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department is now offering a Youth Fitness and Health program called Fit & Fun Youth for ages 10-14. The program will be offered on Tuesdays from 4-5 PM from January 29th thru February 26th, 2019. The program will focus on educating kids about healthy eating, making healthy choices, and becoming more active in order to improve overall health and body confidence. Each week participants will engage in a short educational lecture and activity, such as learning to cook a healthy recipe, followed by a physical activity such as a fitness obstacle course or active game. This program is a fun way for kids to socially interact with others their age, learn healthy alternatives, and become more active in the process. The cost of the program is $50. Registration will close January 25th, 2019. The program will be instructed by Victoria Ward who is a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, Barre Fitness Instructor and Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist. This youth league is co-sponsored by the Carteret County and Morehead City Parks and Recreation Departments. Teams will practice at the Morehead City Recreation Center or Morehead City Middle School. Games will be played at these gyms and other county gym facilities.
Morehead City Transient Docks (807 Shepard Street) are closed to the public until further notice. Vessels from town leased docks will be occupying these slips as approved by the Town Dock Master. The following parks and water accesses are closed:
The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department will be accepting 11th Street Vessel Parking Permit applications on March 1; permits are valid March 1 – January 15 of the pass year. MCPRD will begin accepting 2018-19 permit applications on Thursday, March 1 at 7:00 a.m. at the Morehead City Recreation Center located at 1600 Fisher Street. Vessel permit cost is $25. In order to be eligible for this permit, you must live within the town’s municipal limits and provide proof of residency (tax bill, utility bill, water bill, or deed).
