Welcome to MHC Parks & Recreation Department

Municipal recreation and educational classes for Morehead City are provided and give a comprehensive and varied program of activities, services, and resources for its citizens at all levels, from the pre-school to senior citizens. It is our department’s desire to provide a recreation experience designed to meet constructive and worthwhile goals of the individual participant, groups, and the community at large.

Beginner Tennis Camp 2019

Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department offers a beginner tennis camp sessions beginning in June.  The camp will offer an exciting tennis experience with an emphasis on fun.  Concentration will be placed on establishing basic skill development, focus on eye-hand coordination, fundamentals of all the basic strokes and etiquette of the game of tennis.  There will be tennis racquets available for participants to use.  All participants should wear comfortable clothing, tennis shoes and bring water, sunscreen and a hat.  The first session will begin Monday, June 24 – Wednesday, June 26 with a registration deadline of Friday, June 21st.  The second session begins Monday, July 29 – Wednesday, July 31st with a registration deadline of Friday, July 26. Crystal Coast Volleyball League 2019

The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department, Carteret County Parks and Recreation Department and Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Department sponsor a Girls Youth Volleyball League for girls ages 9-14. Registration begins July and runs through September 1st.  Tentative practice begins September 9th and games begin September 23th. 

Volunteer coaches are needed.

Fees for the program are $35.00 per child.

Registration will be taken at Carteret County Parks and Recreation Department, Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department, and Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Department.  For more information call;

Shevans Park Playground Renovation

Notice is hereby given that the Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public meeting to seek public comment on renovating the Shevans Park Playground. The public is invited to attend this drop-in style meeting anytime between 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26th at the Morehead City Recreation Center, 1600 Fisher Street. This public input meeting is an opportunity for residents to share their ideas about a Shevans Park playground renovation. Summer Camp 2019

Summer Camp is completely FULL.  You can add your child to the waiting list by clicking the above credit card registration link.  The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department sponsors an 8-week Summer Camp Program for children ages 4-12. Camp staff supervises daily activities such as arts and crafts classes, playground time, gymnasium games, fieldtrips and so much more.  The department promotes fun recreational and educational activities. Camp operates from 7:30am-5:30 pm Monday-Friday.  Classes are divided into age groups.  Children must be fully potty-trained.  The 8-week program costs $300 for Morehead City Residents ($250 for each additional child), and $450 for Non-City Residents ($400 for each additional child).  Registration can be taken at Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department located at 1600 Fisher Street, Morehead City or online through the above credit card registration link.  For more information, contact Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department at 252-726-5083.  Summer Camp Flyer 2019 Summer Day Camp Registration Form

Boys Hip-Hop

THERE WILL BE NO BOYS HIP-HOP DURING THE MONTH OF JULY.  Classes will resume in August.  Energetic boys welcome! On Wednesdays from 4:45PM-5:15PM, Ms. Amber will be teaching a fun, boys dance class.  No tip-toes here.  We will be movin’ and groovin’ and getting the wiggles out.  The class costs $30/month. 11th Street Vessel Permit 2019

The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department will be accepting 11th Street Vessel Parking Permit applications on March 1; permits are valid March 1 – January 15 of the pass year. MCPRD will begin accepting 2019-20 permit applications on Friday, March 1 at 7:00 a.m. at the Morehead City Recreation Center located at 1600 Fisher Street. Vessel permit cost is $25.  In order to be eligible for this permit, you must live within the town’s municipal limits and provide proof of residency (tax bill, utility bill, water bill, or deed).  You also must provide proof of ownership of your vessel.
