Joshua Hassell

Fire & EMS
Title: Fire/EMS Battalion Chief
Hassell,-J

My name is Joshua Hassell, and I have had the pleasure of working at MCFD for my entire career. I started here in 2007 after graduating high school early and getting to participate in Morehead’s First Rookie School. I have learned, and continue to learn, a lot from all of my co-workers. The core of my job now is passing on the knowledge and experiences I have gained from the great leaders and teachers that have imparted such things to me. As a battalion chief, I am in a command role within the fire department, but helping teach others is how I truly earn my keep. I have an associate's degree in Emergency Preparedness Technology from Coastal Carolina Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Fire and Emergency Services Administration from Fayetteville State University. However, as my grandma would say, “with those [degrees] and a shovel, I can dig a ditch." I try to live by the following: "9 Your love must be real. Hate what is evil, and hold on to what is good. 10 Love each other like brothers and sisters. Give each other more honor than you want for yourselves. 11 Do not be lazy but work hard, serving the Lord with all your heart. 12 Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes, and pray at all times." Romans 12:9-12. I am proud and honored to serve alongside my fellow firefighters and EMT’s as we place community before self, and provide excellence to all those we serve.
