2023 MHCL All Ages Summer Reading Program

MHCL SRP 2023 Cover 2

Every year, the Morehead City Library (MHCL) sponsors a Summer Reading Challenge in an effort to motivate children and teens to read for pleasure and to help them maintain reading skills during the summer months. The Summer Reading Challenge also encompasses adult programs that encourage adults to explore new genres, pursue new interests, and model lifelong learning and reading to children and teens.  Morehead City Library uses programming materials from iREAD to support library staff in motivating children, young adults, and adults to read and learn.

Research has shown that reading in the summer months helps children return to school more prepared to learn in the fall. Reading aloud is a great for family bonding. Teens and adults can spend more time to read in the summer and pursue their interests and learning goals.

Connect with the Morehead City Library this summer and discover new books, programs, virtual events, and hands-on activity kits. The broad theme of self-expression encompasses a variety of mediums for youth and adults to fine their voice: from visual arts to writing, storytelling, music, and so much more!

You can register for The MHCL Summer Reading Challenge by logging into your Beanstack account (https://moreheadcitync.beanstack.com) or stop by the library to pick up registration materials.

The Summer Reading Challenge began on Memorial Day – Monday, May 29th and concludes on Saturday, August 26th.

Log your reading!  For every reading milestone challenge achieved, participants can come into the library to receive ONE brag tag of their choice and ONE entry each for the monthly raffle and Grand Prize raffle.
