Morehead City Recreation Center Re-Opening Plan

Morehead City Recreation Center Re-opens

According to Governor Cooper’s orders, gyms and other indoor exercise facilities can open at 30 percent capacity.  Morehead City Parks and Recreation staff have worked tirelessly on how to re-open the Recreation Center safely while complying with the Governor’s orders.

The Morehead City Recreation Center will begin opening in limited capacity September 21st from 8:30-11:30 a.m.  Starting September 23rd, the Recreation Center will be open daily Monday through Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and again from 4:30-7:30 p.m.  This schedule will allow staff to adequately disinfect all workout areas, weight rooms and the gymnasium in accordance with CDC cleaning guidelines.

The gymnasium must be reserved before use.  Morehead City Recreation Center members can reserve the gymnasium for a one-hour maximum time and eight person limit by emailing or calling 252.726.5083.

To keep Parks & Recreation staff and residents as safe as possible while using the Recreation Center we ask our members to adhere to the following guidelines from the State to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

  • Wear a mask as you enter and exit the Recreation Center
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Bring personal items for activities such as a water bottle, yoga mat, and towel
  • Wash hands or use hand sanitizer before and after using work out and weight lifting equipment
