Members
The Board of Adjustment is a 9-member Board consisting of five In-City members appointed by the City Council and four extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) members appointed by the Carteret County Board of Commissioners. The chairman and vice-chairman are elected annually by the members of the Board of Adjustment.

To apply to become a member on the Morehead City Board of Adjustment, submit a Citizen Participation Application (PDF) to the City Clerk at 202 S 8th Street, or by email.
Overview
The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial body composed of representatives from Morehead City and its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) who are given certain powers under and relative to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The primary responsibility of the Board of Adjustment is to review requests for Special-Use permits and Variance petitions as well as to hear various appeals. In order for a petition or permit to be granted, four out of five members must vote in favor of the applicant's request.
