Inspections
The Morehead City Inspections Division is responsible for review of construction plans, issuance of building permits, inspections, and code compliance of all building construction (new, renovation, repairs, demolition, etc.) within Morehead City’s corporate limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). The Division also administers and enforces the Minimum Housing Standards, the Minimum Nonresidential Structure Standards, and the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.

A departmental plan review service is available by appointment for review of proposed new businesses, commercial construction and development projects, and business expansions. The service provides a one-stop shop opportunity for business developers and owners to meet with representatives of city departments including:

HOUSING DISCRIMINATION COMPLAINT PROCEDURES
The Town of Morehead City deplores discrimination in the provision of housing on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, sex, national origin, young children in a family, or handicapping conditions. The Town desires that every citizen be afforded the opportunity to select a home of his or her choice.
If you feel you have been discriminated against due to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, handicap or familiar status and wish to file a complaint of housing discrimination in Morehead City may contact:

Upon receiving a housing discrimination complaint, the Director of Planning and Inspections shall inform the NC Department of Commerce, Rural Economic Development Division and the North Carolina Human Relations Commission about the complaint within ten (10) calendar days. The Town shall then assist the Commission and the complainant in filing an official written housing discrimination complaint with the Commission, pursuant to the State Fair Housing Act and Title VIII.
The Town of Morehead City will assist the Commission in the investigation and conciliation of all housing discrimination complaints which are based on events occurring in the Town.
